From October 7 until November 29, 2021, a Road Safety Auditors Train-the-Trainer-Course in Ukraine was successfully delivered, culminating with the Ceremony of Awarding Certificates on December 15.

 From October 7 until November 29, 2021, a Road Safety Auditors Train-the-Trainer-Course in Ukraine was successfully delivered, culminating with the Ceremony of Awarding Certificates on December 15. 

The training was organized by the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility (GRSF) in collaboration with the Reform Support Team at the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) 2020-2025. The scope of the training was to build local capacity following the EU Directive by preparing future trainers in the field of Road Safety Audits and Road Safety Inspections, by transferring the knowledge to the other professionals in Ukraine whose work will increase the level of safety on the Ukrainian road network. There were a total of 24 trainees selected to attend this training, coming from different environments - government institutions, private companies, universities, and research institutes.  

Training Course Highlights 

The course was organized in two parts: Road safety Inspection and Road Safety Audit, with practical work and homework tasks after each part.

In addition, all participants received knowledge about Basic principles of lecturing during RSA course (methods of learning, work with smaller and larger groups – pros and cons, showing examples, giving tasks, checking of the achieved knowledge level), Communication with the trainees (motivation and initial approach to the trainees, communication barriers, overcoming of the barriers, efficient communication), Technics and methods for evaluating of the trainees (criteria, theoretical and practical tests, mistakes during evaluation) and Drafting of tests for the trainees (content, quality of tests). 

Depending on the level of presented knowledge, all 24 participants received one of three levels of certificates: 

  • of competence for undertaking RSI/RSA and capability to teach others 

  • of competence for undertaking RSI/RSA 

  • of attendance

Certificate Award Ceremony 

Certificates are delivered to all participants by Alina F. Burlacu, Senior Transport Specialist & Program Manager on the Award Ceremony that was held online on December 15, 2021.

Deputy Minister Anna Yurchenko congratulated all participants and added, "We are grateful to the international partners and trainers. It is important for Ukraine to learn from international success and knowledge to apply European standards and improve road safety."

Rebecca Bavinger from Bloomberg Philanthropies expressed satisfaction with the realization of the Foundation`s first project regarding road safety in Ukraine. She said, "At the foundation, we have been investing in road safety since 2007. This is our first year investing in Ukraine so we are really pleased to kick off this great work in collaboration with World Bank’s Global Road Safety Facility." 

Head of GRSF & Global Lead for Road Safety Said Dahdah added, "I have faith that you have been exposed to the full-fledged best practices of road safety. Please use all the people you have met in the training as your network and advisors."    

Yevhen Bulakh from the World Bank Office in Kiev remarked, "This is a step forward for the entire country to have these tools in terms of safety infrastructure to be provided for the citizens of Ukraine. I am really happy that Bloomberg Philanthropies came up with such an initiative."
